You Make A Difference
As we go about our daily lives, which are becoming increasingly busy, overwhelming, and distracted, it can be all to easy to forget about ourselves, and push our own personal experiences to the background. But sooner or later something eventually happens to cause us to stop in our tracks. It could be personal illness, or the sickness or death of a loved one, or loss of any kind: a pet, a job, an income we depended on. It can also be a major upheaval, having to move to a new home, state, or country. Having a new baby. It seems that these days, the only thing that is certain, is change, and we have all had to hit the ground running or doing a belly-crawl.
Having to deal with major life challenges takes up so much of our time and attention that we can often fail to see how we are growing as we adapt and change in the midst of shifting sands. Yet, we are the first generation of humans - ever- that has had to deal with so much change, on a global scale, at such a fast pace. We have already come so far, and learned so much, and we have so much to share. With all our thoughts, words and actions, we are making a difference in this fast-changing world. In fact, the very reason the world is fast-changing is because of us. Everything we say and do is contributing to the whole of our experience.
You have so much wisdom, much more than you realize, if you only took a few moments to reflect on what happened to you, how you coped, and what you learned as a result. Many of you already keep a personal journal, and you can maximize on it by adopting the new modern memoir approach. And the good news is, it needn’t take up any more of your extremely precious time. It has a lot to do with re-focusing your perspective. As little as five minutes a day is enough to get you started, and learn the process.
Why New Modern Memoir?
With new modern memoir you are not just recording the events of your life (as they fly by at the speed of light) but you are pausing to gather the gems along the way, shine them, and polish them, and add them to your treasure chest that reminds you of who you’ve been, and who you’re becoming.
So How Does It Work?
At first, just set the intention going forward that you will gather every gem, every nugget of wisdom that this life is teaching you! Then if you don’t do so already, get yourself a little journal that you can write in for five to fifteen minutes every day. Then start by using the three revealing questions below:
Three Revealing Questions
What do I most need to learn from this event? (pick the first that comes to you)
What is the person, place, or situation, that’s showing me life patterns that I need to pay attention to?
What am I here to learn?
We all have a wise self with higher wisdom waiting for our questions, which are like keys that unlock clear knowing. Some call it our Soul, some say Higher Self or Wise One. You already know that aspect of you that can be wiser than your everyday thoughts would have you believe. In answering your questions write what comes without pausing or editing. It is a stream of consciousness. Let your pen flow freely. Continue until the writing stops naturally.
Congratulations! You have started the process of new modern memoir where you develop a unique approach to memoir writing that emphasizes the wisdom, insight, and lessons learned from your valuable experiences.
